About Me

ALVITA TYLER

Founder of Special Needs Journey Consulting

I have always been a nurturer at heart so going into the field of education felt very natural. The impact of a teacher’s love changed my life forever, so much so, that I wanted to emulate that feeling for others. The effect that an educator can have on a child is immeasurable, and as I transitioned through a challenging time in my life, my teacher supported me through it all. I knew from that point that I wanted to become an educator and leave my own mark in the lives of children.

I began working at a Respite program on Sundays for children with Special Needs and eventually I assisted in facilitating Mommy And Me classes and Social Groups classes for the same population. I earned a BS degree in Elementary and Special Education and began providing ABA services to children and Parent Training to families.I went on to receive a Masters degree in TESOL and transitioned into teaching in an underserved community in a public school.

Cultivating little minds was my life’s mission. I wanted to make a difference in education so I ventured out to complete an Advanced Study in Administration. Working with children was a huge part of my world and my experience throughout my career helped me on my motherhood journey. My proudest accomplishment of all was becoming a mother two times over to two beautiful boys. My oldest son had a Speech delay and he didn’t speak until he was four years old. Initially the journey was difficult because I was a first time mom trying to figure out how to cope with all facets of this process. I was fortunate to have experience in the Special Education field, and so I leverage my skills to advocate for my son.

Not only was I his voice, but I was the architect of his educational blueprint. In collaboration with educators, therapists, and administrators, we made leaps and bounds, and his transformation was unbelievable. His journey inspired me to self-publish the book, “The Boy who Dreamt of Firetrucks”. Ten years later, I found myself back on this journey with my youngest son that was diagnosed with Autism at age two. It was evident to me that I needed to take some time away to fully immerse myself into his world, and so I left my job to start a new quest which allowed me to play an active role in his educational journey. I’ve learned so many lessons along my life’s adventure thus far. While on this path with my youngest son, I found clarity in my purpose and that is to help families like my own navigate this Special Educational process with a positive perspective.
